Three graduate programs of Leyte Normal University (LNU) passed Level III – Phase 2 accreditation by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) members last December 10, 2009.

The programs were Doctor of Philosophy in Social Science Research (Ph.D.S.S.R.), Doctor in Management in Human Resources Management (D.M.H.R.M.) and Master in Management (M.M.). There were three accreditors from Don Mariano Marcos State University (DMMSU) in La Union, Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in Nueva Viscaya and the Executive Director of AACCUP and Chair of the Panel of Accreditors, Mr. Manuel Corpus.

According to Dr. Nestor C. Sedanza, Director for Accreditation, the accreditation was based on four areas: curriculum and instruction, research, extension, and faculty development. The programs need an average rating of 4 to pass the accreditation.

The accreditation started with an opening program, followed by the area presentation, discussion, announcement of results and the closing program.

The school formed an Accreditation Task Force and Accreditation Working Group in preparation for the event. The Task Force was in charge of the narrative profile, compliance report documents and the PowerPoint presentation during the accreditation program while the Working Group was assigned for the reception, accommodation and transportation of the accreditors, the program, meals and snacks, tokens and certificates, documentation and the venue of the accreditation. Preparation for the vent took two months from October 2009 to December 2009.

Meanwhile the Bachelor of Arts in Communication (ABCOM), Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW), Bachelor of Elementary Education-Bachelor of Secondary Education (BEEDBSED), Bachelor of Science in Tourism and Hotel and Restaurant Management (BSTHRM) and the Master of Arts in Math Education (M.A.Math Ed.) programs will be accredited for Level I status on February 8-13, 2010. The school pays P20, 000 for the accreditation of each program.
