LNU Joins Handa Pilipinas 2023 Visayas Leg


Leyte Normal University actively participated in the commencement of Handa Pilipinas 2023: Innovations in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Exposition Visayas Leg, November 08, at the Summit Hotel, Tacloban City. Spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office 8, the event centered on the theme “STY Yolanda Remembered: Understanding Risks and Preventing Disasters.”

Dignitaries, including Republic of the Philippines President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., and leaders from various local government units in Region 8, were present at the ceremony. The gathering also drew participants from national and regional government agencies, regional disaster risk reduction and management councils, state universities and colleges, non-government organizations, private sectors, and the general public from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

LNU’s commitment to the cause was represented by its President, Dr. Evelyn B. Aguirre, and Vice–President for Administration and Finance, Dr. Gil Nicetas Villarino. Meanwhile, the university’s cultural groups, LNU Philharmonic Singers, LNU Muzik Harmony, and LNU Dance Company, performed compelling presentations during the event.

The Handa Pilipinas Expo aims to enhance the country’s resilience by promoting awareness of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and facilitating the practical use of DOST-developed technologies, contributing to preparedness and response capabilities in the event of disasters.
