Leyte Normal University Hosts Conversations with Luminaries in Music

The faculty and students of Leyte Normal University’s Bachelor in Music in Music Education (BMME) Unit organized a “Conversations with Luminaries in Music” activity at the LNU Ballroom on March 12, 2024.

Luminaries present were Marie Jocelyn Marfil, Associate Professor of UP College of Music and the Artistic Director and Adviser of UP Rondalla, and Dr. Stephen Lagarde, Author and Arranger of Kanta Binisaya. Present also were Dr. Evelyn B. Aguirre the university president, deans, faculty, and students.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Aguirre narrated the establishment of the BMME program and how the university would like to foster collaboration with other universities to enhance the program.

Meanwhile, Dr. Marfil narrated her journey, emphasizing her commitment to learning music abroad to promote and preserve Filipino culture. She even further advised the BMME students not to limit themselves to the four walls of the room and instead dream and explore.

A significant part of the event was a book donation drive, wherein Dr. Marfil generously contributed to the enrichment of the university’s resources in music education.

The event also featured various performances, including a rendition of Miligoy by the LNU Philharmonics arranged by Dr. Lagarde; a guitar performance by Mr. Jeffrey Ibanez, a second-year BMME student; a piano rendition of Malikmata by Mr. Juvin Dave H. Lemosnero; a piano performance by Dr. Leoncio Olobia; and a Bandurria performance by Miss Nikki Zen Obmasca, a member of UP Rondalla.
