LNU Strengthens Human Rights Advocacy Partnership with CHR Region VIII

TACLOBAN CITY, PHILIPPINES (February 26, 2026) – Ceremonial Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing of Center for Human Rights Education (CHRE) Between Leyte Normal University (LNU) and Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Regional Office VIII at LNU Ballroom Hall.

Leyte Normal University has formally entered into a partnership with the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Region VIII for the establishment of a Center for Human Rights Education (CHRE), marking a significant milestone in advancing human rights education in Eastern Visayas.

The partnership was formalized through a Ceremonial MOA Signing between LNU, represented by University President Dr. Gil Nicetas B. Villarino, and CHR Region VIII, led by OIC Regional Director Atty. Joy P. Sodusta. The initiative aims to institutionalize human rights education within the University’s academic, research, and extension programs.

As part of the collaboration, a Human Rights Action Planning session was also conducted with key university offices, faculty representatives, and student leaders to ensure the integration of human rights principles across various sectors of the institution.

With this development, LNU becomes the first university in Leyte to officially forge a partnership with CHR for the establishment of a CHRE, reinforcing its commitment to transformative education, social responsibility, and the promotion of dignity, equality, and justice within the academic community and beyond.
