Entrepreneurship Students Bag 2nd Place at BIZCON 2026 with Eco-Friendly RiStraw Innovation

Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship students of Leyte Normal University secured second place in the recently concluded BIZCON 2026, held at the West Visayas State University College of Business and Management in Iloilo City on March 27–28, 2026.

The team presented RiStraw, an innovative and sustainable business concept that introduces an edible, biodegradable, and durable straw made from locally sourced rice as an alternative to plastic and paper straws. The business idea was presented by students Jarred A. Enfermo, Ana Rose M. Gapol, and Mary Joy S. Cañega and aims to reduce environmental waste, support local farmers, and help businesses comply with plastic ban regulations while promoting sustainable agriculture.

With strong market potential, affordable pricing, and promising financial projections, RiStraw highlights Filipino innovation and community empowerment. The team was guided by lead coach Marvin M. Montilla and coach Hanz Jude Luigi E. Villarino.
