Leyte Normal University successfully conducted the Climate Action Discourse Series titled “Peatlands: Critical Carbon Sequestration Systems” on April 10, 2026, via Zoom, bringing together faculty members and students for a one-day learning and proposal-writing initiative focused on climate action and research innovation.

The discourse highlighted the ecological significance of the Leyte peatlands and their role in climate mitigation. Participants engaged in sessions on climate literacy, research gap identification, and proposal development, culminating in group presentations and expert critique.

Serving as resource speaker, Leo Christian V. Lauzon, Regional Development Council (RDC) 8 Private Sector Representative for Social Protection and Grants Manager of the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction, shared insights on climate change, peatland conservation, and strategies for securing external research funding.

Organized by the Office of Research and Innovation, Extension and Internationalization the activity strengthened participants’ research competencies and reinforced the university’s commitment to sustainability, climate education, and community-responsive research initiatives.
