LNU Leads Regional Disaster Resilience Summit for Safer HEIs

Leyte Normal University (LNU) successfully convened higher education institutions across Eastern Visayas for EKSWELAHANG LIGTAS 2026: Bridging Higher Education Institutions for a Resilient Eastern Visayas, held virtually on July 28–29, 2026, in observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM).

Organized by the University’s Sustainability, Climate and Disaster Resilience Office, in partnership with the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance, and the DRRM/PC Junior Falcons, the activity gathered faculty members, personnel, students, and representatives from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across the region to strengthen institutional preparedness against both natural and human-induced hazards.

Throughout the summit, experts from government agencies, partner higher education institutions, and civil society organizations led discussions on active-shooter prevention, first aid and emergency response, institutional DRRM best practices, climate change adaptation, coastal biodiversity protection, and Artivism as psychosocial support.

Anchored on the 2026 NDRM theme, “Naghahanda at Kumikilos Tungo sa Panatag na Bagong Pilipinas,” the initiative reaffirmed LNU’s commitment to advancing disaster resilience, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development through collaborative partnerships.
