Our Research Agenda
The Research Agenda of the university enshrined in the Research, Innovation, and Extension Manual (RIEM) 3.01 as approved last October 16, 2017, per BOR Resolution No. 990 S. 2017 explicates the following well defined objectives:
To develop a concrete and well-ironed research culture, both the faculty, students, and other stakeholders.
To give directions to the University relative to Research and Development programs and activities.
To respond to the University’s need in all its research undertakings to improve policies and practices in cooperation and collaboration with identified higher education institutions.
To integrate knowledge and praxis of sustainable development in education, arts and sciences, and management and entrepreneurship to respond to the socio-political, economic, cultural, and environmental issues of the 21st century.
To contribute to accomplishing the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2017-2022 geared toward accomplishing the country’s Ambisyon Natin 2040 program.
To enable the university to produce high quality research that will advance learning and national development, as well as international comparability of the Philippine higher education system.
The research agenda of the university covers the period 2017-2021 as approved last October 16, 2017, per BOR Resolution No. 990 S. 2017. During the pandemic, the said agenda was extended while the period of public health emergency is in effect in the country (BOR Resolution No. 1223 S. 2020).
Leyte Normal University (LNU) proudly announces the initiation of the crafting process for its new Research Agenda covering the years 2024 to 2028. This strategic initiative is designed to align the university’s research priorities with national development objectives and the benchmarks of global academic excellence.
In the wake of the previous agenda’s extension due to the Public Health Emergency, LNU is now geared towards establishing a progressive and impactful research framework. The development process is grounded in the principles outlined by BOR Resolution No. 991, S. 2017, promoting a collaborative approach that involves faculty, students, National Government Agencies (NGAs), and other key stakeholders.
The initial phase of crafting the new agenda involves a comprehensive review of LNU’s existing research directions, juxtaposed with the strategic imperatives of pivotal NGAs, including the DOST, DOH, NEDA, RDC, and the Office of the President. This review ensures that the university’s research endeavors remain pertinent and poised to address national and international exigencies.
Subsequent phases will focus on the enrichment and survey regarding relevance and capacity, the prioritization of crucial research domains, extensive consultations, and culminate in presentations to the Research Council and the Board for ultimate ratification.
Dr. Jonas P. Villas, who is spearheading the agenda-crafting process at LNU, highlighted the significance of this undertaking: “We stand at a critical juncture in the evolution of our university’s research landscape. The forthcoming agenda is not merely a roadmap for our scholarly pursuits over the next half-decade; it is a blueprint for enhancing our societal contribution through rigorous academic inquiry. Our commitment to an inclusive and thorough process ensures that the resulting agenda will be both innovative and impactful.”
Faculty members, integral to the vibrancy of LNU’s research culture, are encouraged to lend their insights and expertise during this consultative phase. Their dedication to research, as evidenced by their commitment to allocating significant time to these activities, underscores their crucial role in sculpting the university’s research trajectory.
In addition to faculty input, LNU is keen on incorporating feedback from students, NGAs, and various interested entities in the ensuing months, to guarantee that the agenda reflects a broad spectrum of perspectives and expertise.
