SDG 8 - DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

8.3 - Expenditure per employee

Serving as a primary economic anchor within our region, Leyte Normal University (LNU) plays a crucial role in driving local financial vitality, sustainable employment, and regional development.

To quantify this contribution, our institution evaluates total operational expenditure per employee normalized against regional gross domestic product (GDP) per capita. This standardized metric reflects our relative economic value generation, demonstrating how institutional spending and employment directly stimulate local commerce and community prosperity regardless of overall institutional scale.

8.3.1 - Expenditure per employee

Number of Employees

The overall personnel footprint remained stable between 2022 and 2023, maintaining an identical total headcount of 351 employees. In 2022, academic staff comprised 206 of these employees, accounting for 58.69% of the university’s total workforce. Disaggregated academic staff data for 2023 and 2024, along with total headcount for 2024, remain unrecorded in the dataset.

University Expenditure

Total university expenditure grew significantly from PHP 327.13 million in 2022 to PHP 516.82 million in 2023. This marks an absolute increase of PHP 189.69 million, or a 57.98% growth in institutional spending year-over-year.

Economic Density and Regional Impact

Dividing overall expenditure by total headcount reveals a clear shift in institutional resource intensity:

  • 2022 Expenditure per Employee: PHP 931,994.30

  • 2023 Expenditure per Employee: PHP 1,472,421.65

Because employee headcount remained constant at 351, the 57.98% rise in expenditure per staff member indicates that the university’s expanding economic contribution in 2023 was driven by intensified capital outlays, infrastructural investments, research project scaling, and operational funding rather than payroll expansion. Relative to regional economic output (GDP per capita), this trajectory demonstrates a growing capacity to generate local financial liquidity and drive economic activity without placing additional labor demand pressures on the regional market.
