SDG 5 - GENDER EQUALITY

5.2 - Proportion of first-generation female students

To advance gender equity and foster intergenerational social mobility, our university actively tracks and supports first-generation female students—women who are the first in their immediate family to pursue higher education.

Measured on a full-time equivalent basis among incoming female students, this metric reflects our dedicated institutional efforts to dismantle structural barriers for disadvantaged women. Through tailored outreach pathways, dedicated mentorship networks, financial aid options, and academic support services, our institution ensures that female students from underrepresented backgrounds receive the resources and guidance required to successfully transition into university life and thrive throughout their academic journey.

First-Generation Female Students

LNU stands on its commitment towards gender inclusivity with a significant number of female students enrollees starting their first degree in the institution. Providing equal accessibility mirrors equity towards equality, symbolizes interconnectedness rooted in gender responsiveness, removes gender-bias educational agenda, and emancipates gender expressions enmeshed in the narratives of academic freedom.

Figure 2. Number of First-Generation Women Starting a Degree (2021-2024)

Between 2021 and 2024, the enrollment of first-generation women starting a degree program experienced an initial drop followed by a steady multi-year recovery. After reaching a high of 974 students in 2021, the number of incoming first-generation women dropped significantly to 446 in 2022.

Following this decline, institutional support mechanisms and targeted recruitment efforts drove a consistent upward trajectory, with figures rising to 579 in 2023 and expanding further to 645 in 2024. This positive two-year trend demonstrates our university’s renewed momentum in expanding access, breaking intergenerational barriers, and encouraging underrepresented women to pursue higher education.
