SDG 1 - No Poverty
End poverty in all forms everywhere.
1.2 - Proportion of students receiving financial aid to attend university because of poverty
To ensure higher education remains accessible regardless of background, Leyte Normal University (LNU) provides targeted financial assistance to full-time undergraduate students experiencing poverty and severe financial hardship, including refugees and displaced individuals.
This section highlights our institutional measures, scholarship programs, and direct aid initiatives designed to dismantle economic barriers and support vulnerable learners throughout their studies. Through these dedicated support mechanisms, we track and expand student financial aid to foster an inclusive academic environment where financial need never limits educational potential.
1.2.1 - Low income students receiving financial aid
Between 2021 and 2024, our total student body demonstrated steady growth, expanding from 6,868 to 7,903 enrolled students. This upward trajectory reflects our institution’s expanding capacity and continuous commitment to widening access to higher education.
Concurrently, institutional assistance for low-income students saw a major surge following a period of decline. After falling from 3,311 aid recipients in 2021 to 1,578 in 2023, financial support expanded significantly in 2024 to reach a four-year high of 4,162 students. By 2024, low-income financial aid recipients represented over 52% of the total student population, demonstrating our scaled-up efforts to ensure that financial hardship does not restrict academic opportunity.
