Leyte Normal University (LNU), in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Department of Education (DepEd), and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tacloban City, formally concluded the implementation of the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program through a culminating activity held on June 25, 2026, at the LNU HRDC Gymnasium, Tacloban City, recognizing the dedication and service of college student tutors, Youth Development Workers (YDWs), and partner stakeholders.

The recognition program celebrated the invaluable contributions of LNU student volunteers who served as tutors and YDWs in advancing the program’s literacy and youth development initiatives. It likewise honored the partner agencies and stakeholders whose steadfast collaboration and commitment contributed to the successful implementation of the program.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the DSWD Field Office VIII, the DepEd Tacloban City Schools Division, the Tacloban City Government, and Leyte Normal University, underscoring the strong inter-agency partnership that has driven the program’s success. Among those present were Tacloban City Mayor Hon. Alfred S. Romualdez, represented by Ms. Melinda Sagdullas, Social Welfare Officer III of the City Social Welfare and Development Office; LNU President Dr. Gil Nicetas B. Villarino, represented by Mr. Lowell Quisumbing; Tacloban City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Sherlita A. Palma; and DSWD Field Office VIII Regional Director Grace Q. Subong, represented by Mr. Ley Marzon E. Morada, Tara Basa! Tutoring Program Regional Program Coordinator.

Certificates of recognition and appreciation were awarded to tutors, Youth Development Workers, and partner institutions in acknowledgment of their dedication, hard work, and significant contributions throughout the program’s implementation.

The Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program Culminating Activity marked not only the successful completion of the program but also reaffirmed the collective commitment of government agencies, educational institutions, local government units, and community partners to promoting literacy, empowering young learners, and strengthening collaborative efforts toward quality education.
