LNU Hosts Orientation-Workshop on Microcredentials

TACLOBAN CITY, PHILIPPINES – Orientation-Workshop on Microcredentials held at Leyte Normal University (LNU) Hotel Crescencia Cafe.

Leyte Normal University, through the Vice President for Academic Services and the Center for Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning, conducted an Orientation-Workshop on Microcredentials on August 26, 2026, at the LNU Crescencia Café.

The activity aimed to deepen the university community’s understanding of microcredentials and their role in advancing flexible, competency-based, and lifelong learning opportunities.

The program featured the welcome remarks and statement of purpose delivered by LNU President Dr. Gil Nicetas B. Villarino, who highlighted the importance of exploring innovative approaches to education and responding to the evolving needs of learners.

The highlight of the activity was the session “Understanding Microcredentials as a Lifelong Learning Initiative,” led by LNU Board of Regents Chairperson Commissioner Michelle Aguilar Ong of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), who served as the resource speaker. Coach Mich’s presentation provided participants with valuable insights into microcredentials, their significance in lifelong learning, and their potential application in the higher education context.

The activity likewise encouraged meaningful engagement and helped participants better appreciate the opportunities and considerations surrounding the adoption of microcredentials.

Through the orientation-workshop, LNU continues to explore innovative and responsive educational pathways that support lifelong learning, skills development, and the changing demands of higher education.
