Policies for Zero Hunger

Leyte Normal University (LNU) upholds its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger, which seeks to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. Guided by national laws such as Republic Act No. 8435 (Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act), Republic Act No. 11037 (Masustansyang Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act), and Republic Act No. 10611 (Food Safety Act of 2013), as well as the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023–2028, the University affirms its role in promoting sustainable food systems and ensuring access to safe and nutritious food.

LNU commits to integrating the principles of food security, nutrition, and sustainability across instruction, research, and community extension programs. It shall promote campus and community initiatives such as urban gardening, nutrition education, and food safety practices, fostering a culture of responsible consumption and waste reduction.

The University shall collaborate with national and local government agencies, non-government organizations, and community partners to implement hunger mitigation and livelihood programs. A Zero Hunger and Food Security Committee (ZHFSC) shall be established to coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the implementation of related initiatives and ensure alignment with the University’s sustainability goals.

Through this policy, Leyte Normal University affirms its belief that eradicating hunger is not only a global commitment but also a shared local responsibility. By educating minds and empowering communities, LNU strives to nourish lives and help build a future where every Filipino has access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food.
