iPOVCON 2026: Advancing Poverty Solutions through Global and Local Partnerships

Leyte Normal University (LNU) co-hosted the 7th International and 10th National Conference on Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Development (iPOVCON 2026) on October 8–9, 2026, bringing together higher education institutions, government agencies, researchers, community representatives, and development stakeholders to explore innovative and sustainable approaches to poverty reduction.

With the theme “Transforming Marginalized Communities through Global and Local Partnerships for Sustainable Poverty Solutions,” the two-day conference provided a platform for knowledge exchange, research dissemination, policy dialogue, and collaboration on issues affecting marginalized communities.

Hosted by Samar State University (SSU), with Leyte Normal University and Occidental Mindoro State University as co-hosts, iPOVCON 2026 highlighted the importance of bringing together academic institutions, government agencies, and communities in addressing the complex and interconnected dimensions of poverty and sustainable development.

The conference highlighted the importance of grounding poverty-reduction initiatives in community voices and lived experiences through the showing of documentaries, followed by a plenary discussion with DSWD representative Atty. Chua, community leaders, and participants. It also featured a panel discussion headed by PASUC President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo and regional agency heads who emphasized inter-agency collaboration and coordinated approaches to addressing poverty.

Beyond the policy and development discussions, iPOVCON 2026 provided a venue for researchers to share evidence-based studies and innovative practices. Outstanding research outputs were recognized through awards for Best Paper Presentation and Best Poster Presentation.

More than a venue for presenting research, iPOVCON 2026 positioned the conference as a platform for translating knowledge into collaboration and action. Its emphasis on grassroots innovation, social protection, inclusive governance, sustainable livelihoods, and community participation reflected a shared recognition that poverty alleviation requires solutions that are evidence-based, locally grounded, and strengthened through partnerships.

As the conference concluded, the co-hosting institutions turned over the hosting responsibility of iPOVCON 2027 to Sorsogon State University, marking the continuation of the platform and its commitment to sustaining dialogue and collaboration toward more inclusive and sustainable communities.

Ultimately, iPOVCON 2026 affirmed that sustainable poverty alleviation is a shared responsibility—one that calls for stronger partnerships among universities, government institutions, communities, and other development stakeholders. Through the exchange of research, experiences, innovations, and policy perspectives, the conference contributed to building pathways toward communities that are more inclusive, resilient, empowered, and capable of shaping their own sustainable futures.
