LNU Hands Over Mount Buga-Buga Tourism Study to Villaba LGU

Leyte Normal University (LNU) officially turned over its Sustainable Tourism Assessment of Mount Buga-Buga to the Villaba LGU on June 12, 2025, at the mountain’s view deck. The project was funded by the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) and carried out with the support of barangay officials and the Office of Congresswoman Anna Victoria Veloso-Tuazon.

The assessment documented the area’s rich biodiversity and explored its potential for community-based ecotourism. LNU researchers presented key findings on local plant and animal species, conservation needs, and practical guidelines for sustainable tourism and habitat protection.

During the turnover, Dr. Jonas P. Villas, LNU Officer-in-Charge University President, thanked partners and highlighted how the project aligns with LNU’s mission to use research for local development. Congresswoman Tuazon received the reports and assured continued support for implementing the study’s recommendations.

The turnover marked the conclusion of the NRCP-funded research and the start of local actions to protect Mount Buga-Buga while promoting responsible tourism for Villaba’s communities.
