Rehabilitation of Mangonbangon River Park

Leyte Normal University (LNU), in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau Region 8 (DENR-EMB RO8), has been actively working to rehabilitate the Mangonbangon River Park in Barangay 40-A Young Field, Tacloban City, through the Adopt-an-Estero/Waterbody Program. This initiative emphasizes environmental conservation and disaster preparedness.
On September 26, 2012, LNU formalized its commitment to this cause by signing a Memorandum of Agreement with DENR-EMB RO8 and the Tacloban City Local Government Unit, aiming to foster a healthier, cleaner, and safer environment for the community. The rehabilitation officially commenced on February 21, 2020, with the inauguration of Phase 1 on December 16, 2020. Building on this progress, plans are underway for a second phase of rehabilitation to further enhance and expand the park.
Today, Mangonbangon River Park stands as a clean and vibrant green space, valued not only for its environmental contributions but also as a popular spot for locals and students alike, who enjoy the revitalized natural surroundings.
