LNU Hosts Orientation for DSWD’s Tara, Basa! Program
Leyte Normal University held an orientation for the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program, a literacy program initiative of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on January 30, 2025 at the LNU Admin Ballroom.
The program, launched in August 2023 under Executive Order No. 76, series of 2024, aims to assist struggling elementary school readers by deploying trained college students as tutors. Participants who complete 20 tutoring and learning sessions will receive compensation through a cash-for-work scheme. The program is scheduled to run from May 19 to June 14, 2025.
LNU President Dr. Evelyn Aguirre, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Dr. Jonas Villas, and Director for Community Extension Services Dr. Lowell Quisumbing attended the event alongside coordinators and faculty members, emphasizing LNU’s commitment to community engagement and literacy development.
