Leyte Normal University Supports Nuclear Science Education for Region 8 Teachers

Leyte Normal University (LNU) has partnered with the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) and the Department of Education Regional Office VIII to host the Nuclear CAMP (Capacitating and Mentoring Program), a training initiative aimed at broadening the knowledge of Senior High School teachers across the 13 divisions of Region 8 in nuclear science and its real-world applications.
The program commenced with a message of support from Dr. Jonas P. Villas, Officer-in-Charge and Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension of Leyte Normal University. Dr. Villas highlighted the vital role teachers play in addressing misconceptions about nuclear science and in advancing science education in the country.
The event featured presentations and workshops on nuclear science, including topics like “Basic Concepts of Nuclear Science and Technology” and “Biological Effects of Radiation and its Applications in Medicine and Health.” Subsequently, teachers participated in action planning sessions and curriculum development to effectively integrate nuclear science topics into their classes.
