DSWD, LNU Celebrate Official Launch of Full-Pledged “Tara, Basa!” Tutors and YDW

Following a five-day Capability Building Training, Leyte Normal University (LNU) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Field Office VIII (DSWD-FO VIII) officially welcomed 194 fully trained student-participants under the “Tara, Basa!” program on April 4, 2025.

The group of Normalistas is composed of 126 reading tutors and 68 Youth Development Workers (YDWs), who successfully completed the training held from March 31 to April 4, 2025.

The program aims to equip these student-volunteers to deliver reading tutorials to struggling or non-reader pupils and facilitate Nanay-Tatay sessions for the parents of learners, promoting holistic development and parental engagement in children’s literacy.

As part of the program’s cash-for-work component, each student-beneficiary will receive a daily wage equivalent to the Regional Daily Minimum Wage during their 20-day deployment, which will run from May 19 to June 14, 2025.
