PURPPLE Program Launched to Boost Educators’ Research Skills
Leyte Normal University formally launched its extension program titled PURPPLE (Profound Understanding of Research Production and Publication for Learning Educators) through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony held on April 11, 2025, at the LNU Ballroom. The event, organized by the College of Education in collaboration with the Community Extension Services Office, gathered partner schools, stakeholders, and key university officials under the theme “Advancing Education through Dynamic Research Collaboration.”
The program commenced with opening remarks from Dr. Jonas P. Villas, OIC-University President and Vice President for Research, Innovation and Extension. Highlights of the ceremony included the overview of PURPPLE by project leader representatives, Prof. Lorena M. Ripalda and Dr. Fabiana P. Peñeda, followed by a ceremonial signing led by Dr. Lowell A. Quisumbing, Director of the Community Extension Office. Key stakeholders such as Dr. Mariza S. Magan, Superintendent of DepEd Leyte; Christine Anne D. Bihag, Curriculum Head of Palo National High School; Leonora M. Mina, School Principal I of Cogon Elementary School; and Dr. Joyce M. Magtolis, Dean of College of Education, shared their commitment to advancing a culture of research.
PURPPLE aims to strengthen the research capabilities of educators by providing training on research methodologies, scholarly writing, and publication processes. Designed to foster sustainability, the program envisions a network of trained teachers who will cascade their learning to colleagues, promoting a culture of continuous research and academic excellence across local educational communities.
