LNU Serves as Evacuation Site for Taclobanon
TACLOBAN CITY, PHILIPPINES (Nov. 3, 2025) — Leyte Normal University (LNU) opens its doors to accommodate evacuees amidst threat of Typhoon Tino.
In response to the looming threat of Typhoon Tino, LNU has opened its doors to serve as an evacuation site for affected residents of Tacloban City. As of 9:45PM, a total of 181 residents from Barangays 45, 47, 50, 51, and 56-A have sought temporary shelter at the ORC and Conversion Buildings within the university premises.
Meanwhile, the LNU Guesthouse and LNU House have been designated as evacuation centers for university personnel, faculty members, and their families to ensure their safety and immediate access to university facilities.
Representatives from the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) Office visited the evacuation centers to assist evacuees in filling out the Family Assistance Card in Emergencies and Disasters (FACED) forms, which will facilitate the provision of relief goods and post-disaster assistance.
University President Dr. Gil Nicetas B. Villarino, together with the University Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Committee, has ensured that all necessary preparations and safety protocols are in place. Faculty members, security personnel, and staff from the Office of Physical Plant and Facilities also worked together to secure university properties and maintain order in the evacuation areas.
As Tacloban braces for the possible impact of Typhoon Tino, LNU continues to uphold its commitment to community service and disaster preparedness by providing safe refuge to displaced families while maintaining campus safety and welfare.
