LNU Launches Orientation Seminar Series on Teaching Learners with Special Needs


TACLOBAN CITY, PHILIPPINES (Dec. 3, 2025) – Orientation Seminar Series on Teaching Learners with Special Needs at LNU House Function Room.

Leyte Normal University officially launched its Orientation Seminar Series on Teaching Learners with Special Needs with Series 1: “Communication Beyond Words: Introduction to Filipino Sign Language” held on December 3, 2025, at the LNU House Function Room.

The session featured Mr. Ariel M. Velarde, an accredited court sign language interpreter, who guided LNU faculty through foundational Filipino Sign Language (FSL) concepts aimed at strengthening inclusive and accessible education practices.

Open to all LNU faculty, the orientation highlighted the importance of effective communication with Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners, reinforcing the University’s commitment to inclusive pedagogy and learner-centered instruction.
