Leyte Normal University Marks World Water Day with Mangonbangon Creek Clean-Up
On March 23, 2024, Leyte Normal University (LNU), through its Physical Plants and Facilities Office and in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and local officials from Barangays 49 and 50, participated in a clean-up drive to honor World Water Day. The initiative focused on LNU’s adopted water body, the Mangonbangon Creek, as well as the nearby LNU Park, reinforcing the university’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
World Water Day, observed globally, emphasizes the importance of sustainable water resources. LNU’s efforts not only supported this cause but also highlighted the ongoing work of preserving and rehabilitating Mangonbangon Creek under the Adopt-an-Estero/Waterbody Program. Volunteers from LNU and the local community joined hands to clean the creek, remove waste, and maintain the park’s natural beauty, underscoring the university’s dedication to providing a clean, safe, and healthy environment for students and residents alike.
This collaborative clean-up activity is a testament to LNU’s commitment to environmental conservation, aligning with its larger vision of fostering sustainability and disaster resilience within Tacloban City.
