LNU Initiates Tacloban Mangrove Forest Rehabilitation Program
Leyte Normal University (LNU) launched a mangrove rehabilitation initiative in Burayan, San Jose, aimed at establishing a model and standards for effective reforestation projects. The program focused on enhancing biodiversity by replanting and replacing dead saplings with a variety of native mangrove species. Among these, Sonneratia and Avicennia—two resilient species well-suited to withstand wind and wave action—were selected based on prior studies. These saplings were sourced both from the wild and through tissue propagation to ensure the sustainable development of the mangrove ecosystem.
Through this approach, LNU aims to create a diverse, resilient mangrove habitat that contributes to coastal protection and environmental conservation.
