Leyte Normal University Hosts Kanta Binisaya Choral Festival’s Opening Seminar-Workshop


Leyte Normal University (LNU) set the stage for the 2025 Kanta Binisayá Choral Festival with a Capability Enhancement Seminar-Workshop on Choral Conducting at the LNU Ballroom Hall on February 1, 2025. The event brought together choirmasters and conductors from Eastern Visayas, reinforcing the university’s role in preserving and strengthening the region’s musical heritage.

The workshop was led by Dr. Beverly Shangkuan-Cheng, President of the Philippine Choral Directors Association (PCDA) and Chairperson of the UP College of Music’s Department of Conducting and Choral Ensemble; and Dr. Stephen Lagarde, Taclobanon musical arranger and author of Kanta Binisaya Intense. Subsequently, strong institutional support was evident, with LNU President Dr. Evelyn Aguirre and Department of Tourism Regional Director Karen Tiopes among the distinguished attendees.

The seminar marked the first of a three-part workshop series, further solidifying LNU’s commitment to fostering music education and cultural preservation in the region.
