LNU Kicks Off 104th Founding Anniversary with Green Initiatives and Sustainability Drive
Leyte Normal University officially unveils its 104th Founding Anniversary on Monday, March 3, 2025, with a strong commitment to environmental advocacy through a series of green initiatives.
The celebration began at 5:00 A.M. with the Walk for the Environment, where hundreds of Normalistas, alongside several barangay councils in Tacloban City, faculty members, and administrative staff participated in a university-wide environmental walk.
As part of the event, students brought plastic bottles as registration highlighting the importance of proper waste management and recycling. According to Prof. Jose Ismael Salamia, event chair, they have already collected approximately 20 bags of plastic bottles, with collection still ongoing.
Additionally, the university renewed its commitment to environmental advocacy with the launch of LNU Green Initiative and forum on sustainability titled Shaping a Regenerative Future: Advancing Sustainability, Resilience, and Equity at 9:00 A.M. at the HRDC Alba Hall.
The event featured guest speaker Lineth Brondial, a volunteer from Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines, who discussed sustainable practices and the role of individuals in building a greener and sustainable environment. University officials, faculty, and students attended the forum to discuss inclusive sustainability efforts.
Following the forum, a tree planting activity where participants planted hundreds of Rosewood trees and coconuts across different university campuses.
These environmental sustainability initiatives are expected to continue in the following years, symbolizing the university’s life-long commitment to a greener and regenerative future.
