LNU Strengthens Disaster Preparedness through Earthquake Drill
eyte Normal University (LNU) conducted a successful earthquake drill on March 13, 2025, as part of the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED). The activity, held across multiple campuses, aimed to enhance the university’s preparedness and response capabilities in the event of seismic activity. Faculty members, students, and administrative staff actively participated in the drill to ensure the safety and resilience of the academic community.
The drill commenced across the LNU Independencia and Paterno campus, then at the Youngfield area. Key personnel were vital in facilitating the activity, including building administrators, sweepers, and evaluators assigned to designated evacuation areas as outlined in LNU’s Evacuation Plan. Participants were guided through essential procedures such as practicing the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” technique and proceeding to evacuation zones in an orderly manner.
This initiative demonstrates LNU’s commitment to fostering a culture of disaster preparedness. The Office of Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Pollution Control (DRRMPC) Junior Falcons, led by Mr. Jose Ismael S. Salamia, ensured the smooth execution of the drill by coordinating efforts across all campuses. The active involvement of faculty members and staff showcased the university’s commitment to protecting its academic community while supporting nationwide disaster preparedness initiatives.
By actively participating in the drill, Leyte Normal University ensures that its academic community is equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively during emergencies. These efforts not only strengthen the university’s resilience but also reaffirm its commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for learning and development.
