LNU Hosts International Conference on Peace Education

Leyte Normal University (LNU) hosted the 2nd International Conference and 23rd National Convention of the Asia Pacific Network for International Education and Values Education (APNIEVE) Philippines from November 4 to 7, 2024. The event gathered students, educators, peace advocates, and leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss and advance peace education and inclusive learning.
The conference featured an impressive lineup of notable speakers, including:
• Dr. Loreta N. Castro, Executive Director, Center for Peace Education, Miriam College: Education for Lasting Peace: Empowering Values Education and International Education for Peace, Justice, and Inclusion
• Mr. Ian Karlo A. Olegario, Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity: The Philippine Government’s Five-Point Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity Agenda
• Dr. Jonas P. Villas, Executive Director, Office of Research and Innovation, Leyte Normal University: Education for Lasting Peace in Basic Education
• Mr. Leo Camposano, Education Supervisor II, CHED Region 8: Education for Lasting Peace in Higher Education
• Prof. Maria Aurora Teresita W. Tabada, Head, Gender Resource Center, Visayas State University: Gender Equality and Peace Education
• Dr. John Bellavance, Global Vice President, Sun Moon University; Oceania Coordinator, International Association of Academicians for Peace: Concern for the Environment, Human Rights, and Safety towards Sustainable Development
• Ms. Erlinda Olivia P. Tiu, Former Regional Head, Philippine Information Agency, Region VIII: Online: Solid Waste Management: Awareness and Practices Among Students
A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between LNU and APNIEVE Philippines, solidifying their shared commitment to promoting peace and values education.
As the host institution, LNU played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the conference, reaffirming its dedication to fostering peace, inclusivity, and global collaboration in education.
